Klemm Hunts is a venture composed of master guide and professional hunter Ken Klemm, his son Austin, and their wives, Laurie and Jacey. Ken and Laurie began working with buffalo in the late 1980s and have been at it ever since. Folks ask him how many buffalo he’s hunted and skinned over the decades, and all he can say is that he's on his third set of knives - likely well over a thousand.
Austin, Ken and Laurie’s oldest of 5 children, grew up around the buffalo world and has followed in his father’s footsteps very well. As a small boy, Austin would build campfires and whip up pots of hot chocolate to keep his dad and the clients warm as Ken skinned and caped the buffalo outside in the winter cold and wind. Austin is now a full-fledged buffalo guide and skinner and is starting to train his young son Bodee in the art of the trade. Laurie and Jacey keep the home fires burning and make sure there is a good lunch handy for the hungry crew on hunt days.
Ken started hunting buffalo in the San Luis Valley of Colorado on a 100,000+ acre buffalo ranch. From there, he and his family moved south of Laramie, WY where he again managed a large buffalo ranch and took in buffalo hunters. In 1999, Ken and Laurie moved their family to their own buffalo ranch in NW Kansas and greatly expanded their buffalo hunting business. In 2022, after 23 years in Kansas, they sold their ranch and returned to their roots in NW Wyoming.
Ken is a well-known and respected expert in buffalo, land management, and conservation practices. He has helped buffalo producers across the US through his writing, speaking, teaching, and onsite consulting. Ken is currently serving as President of the National Bison Association. When Ken isn’t hunting buffalo or helping folks with their buffalo issues, he can be found (or not) in the backcountry of NW Wyoming guiding deer and elk hunts, or tooling about on a horse or in his old Jeep with his sweetheart Laurie.
Back in the mid-1990s, Ken helped long-time Wyoming cattle rancher, Mike May, transition to raising buffalo. A friendship ensued based on their common interests and a shared genuine love for bison, nature, liberty, learning, and too many other things to list. Sadly, in 2019 Ken’s friend Mike passed away. But Mike’s very capable son Sam has taken up the reins of the family ranch — Antlers Ranch. Ken and Sam booted up a combined hunt operation using the May’s 30,000 acres of beautiful ranchland and their large herd of quality bison, coupled with Ken’s extensive buffalo hunting experience and client list. Their first season was in 2022-2023 and was a huge success. Ken likes to say that his friend Mike would be as pleased as he is to see this enterprise doing so well.
The Antlers Ranch meets the Klemms strict criteria for animals of superb health, size, and body condition, super high-quality and healthful meat, excellent trophy quality (heads and hides), sizable country that provides clients with a true spot-and-stalk hunt that closely mimics what hunting buffalo was once like. Skilled butchers, hoteliers, and restaurateurs are also not too far away.
Ken and family have always had their focus on creating a memorable and enjoyable experience that keeps clients returning year after year and bringing new friends or family members each time.
KlemmHunts operates on the Antlers Ranch near Meeteetse, WY during prime hide season, Dec. thru Jan.
