Processing is available in nearby Cody, Byron, and Basin, WY and we can transport your animal to the butcher in Cody for you if needed. Or, we can load your skinned and washed carcass into your rig for you to haul home to your butcher. As many of you know, these carcasses travel very well during hunting season and many hunters prefer to use their local guy or do it themselves. We can accommodate either. The butchers we recommend are:
Wyoming Legacy Custom Meats, Cody, WY (307) 587-5827
307 Processing, Byron, WY (307) 548-6666
Basin Processing, Basin, WY (307) 568-2234
We recommend that you book your processing date at the same time you book your hunt.
Make sure you clearly communicate to the butcher when you expect to pickup your processed meat. Processing a bison is a big job and they often need several days to get it processed and fully frozen. Usually Monday, Tuesday, and sometimes Wednesday hunts will allow them enough time for you to get your processed and frozen meat before they are off for the weekend. Make sure you work out that detail when you book with them.
We can gut, skin, quarter, and wash your carcass for you for no added fee.
Skinning (for robe) and washing the carcass – no charge.
Halving or quartering the carcass – no charge.
Transport to the butcher in Cody, WY – no charge.
Caping for taxidermy head mount - $125
Professional tanning of your robe and shipment to your door - $875
Care and transport of head and or cape to taxidermist in Cody, WY – no charge.
We also have an affordable way to ship your frozen meat home via truck frozen freight – we’re using Diversified Transfer (406) 245-4695 out of Billings, MT. These are big rigs that can’t navigate residential areas so you’ll need to meet them in a big parking lot somewhere on delivery day. The more meat you ship the cheaper the freight per pound gets. Lots cheaper. For instance, to ship one pallet (minimum shipment) from Cody with the premium $7/lb. freight insurance and with the current July 26, 2022 fuel surcharge it would cost to: Denver $545; Houston $1018; Mesa, AZ $821; Stockton, CA $836; Bentonville, AR $865; Wenatchee WA $580; Milwaukee WI $755. This rate is good for a pallet that weighs up to 2500 lbs. – about 6 cull cows.
Come with your buddies and save on the freight. With this economical shipping option you can fly in and have your meat shipped to you. Note: If you plan to use this option make sure the butcher you select can accommodate this.
